Martha Ellison has spent most of her working life in kitchens, from busy hotel brigades and contract catering to community cafés where lunch is cooked for whoever walks through the door. She writes about practical, seasonal cooking for The Create Foundation: the techniques worth learning properly, recipes that scale from two people to two hundred, and the small habits that cut waste and save money without losing flavour.
Born and raised in West Yorkshire, Martha is happiest at a farmers’ market on a Saturday morning or testing a new tray bake on unsuspecting colleagues. Her guiding belief is that confidence in the kitchen is learnt, not inherited, and she writes every piece so a first-time cook can follow it as easily as a seasoned chef.
